HORNIMAN MUSEUM

UNIVERSITY PROJECT — IN COLLABORATION WITH WILLIAM CHILDS

When asked by the Horniman Museum to propose a project to get more people discussing the climate crisis we proposed the creation of an installation piece that replicated and parodied the Horniman Museum’s greatest attraction, its collection of taxidermied animals.

It was displayed within the National History’s gallery in the main hall on the ground floor, where you can find displays covering evolution and adaptation in the natural world.

The talking point of our particular showcase was the ‘taxidermied human’ (a paid performer) frozen in an action that demonstrates the behavioural traits and characteristics of its environment (a caricature of our environmentally destructive tendencies emphasised with props and an outfit).

The construction of the plinth was the more ambitious part of the project, we wanted our base to be similar to the ones in the museum so that our piece felt like it belonged there.
